A post for the rambling
Sep. 10th, 2009 08:39 pmThere are times when I give vague thought to repurposing DMnet. I mean, I've had the domain almost 9 years now (24 September will be its anniversary), so it's sort of my baby. It's always been an archive of my fan fiction, but I also have Apollymi's Grimoire for that. It serves as a network hub for my 7 domains (including itself), as well as many subdomains (The Asylum, Silent Scribblings, and Endless Loop, to name a few).
When I originally bought the domain, it was in very vague reference to a series and specifically a character I really liked (and still do!) - Lina Inverse. Sorceress, primarily uses dark magic, not legerdemain but real magic so add the "k", voila! DarkMagick! The .com was taken, so I grabbed the .net. Almost every domain I've grabbed since has been a .net, so it serves as a good linking point.
But it seems like there should be more I can do with the domain, since it is a pretty damn awesome one, if I must say so myself.
I guess I need to get cracking on that whole anniversary thing, since I always do a new layout for the anniversary. ESMnet probably needs a new one too... and for me to finish updating it. I need to do a quick net scour for Bakura/Kaiba stories online and update BxKnet.
I've found the age of DMnet goes a bit of a ways towards gauging how long I've been writing online. I know the domain is 9 years old and I had been writing about a year or so before I bought it. Before DMnet, I was on FortuneCity, Tripod, Xoom, Dencity, Angelfire, Freeservers, and Geoshitties Geocities, going in backwards order. I also recall the original Fanfic.com went down, and I was reluctant to join FFnet -- but I did join it just after my birthday in 2000. I also know that the second series I started, "The Hope Saga", was begun on 23 November, 1999, and I had long been working on "The Never-Ending Crossover" by that point.
Generally, I guestimate that I started writing online somewhere in 1999, perhaps as early as February or March or as late as June, July, or August. That was before I started putting a date on every one of my stories and each chapter.
Along the time I've been online, I've used two different author names: Eternal SailorM and Apollymi. Unofficially, I have also used two other names as a sort of sub-author name: JitaZ and Angel Maxwell/Angel-chan.
And I guess that was a bit of a random way of saying, holy shit, I've been writing online a while now, about 10 years. Do I get a prize or something?
